What Happens if There is an Issue with my Prescription

At The Family Chemist, we handle every NHS prescription with care, accuracy, and attention to detail. While most prescriptions are processed smoothly and without delay, there are occasions when an issue may arise. If that happens, you can rest assured that our team will act quickly and keep you fully informed every step of the way.

Clinical Checks Come First

As soon as we receive your prescription through the NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS), our qualified pharmacists review it thoroughly. These clinical checks are an essential part of the dispensing process. We look for things like:

  • Correct dosage and instructions

  • Potential interactions with other medications

  • Missing or unclear information

  • Prescription validity and exemptions

If we spot anything unusual, we’ll pause the dispensing process to investigate further because your safety always comes first.

We’ll Be in Touch If There’s a Problem

Should we need more information, we may contact your GP directly for clarification. In some cases, we’ll also reach out to you by phone or email to explain the issue and guide you through any next steps.

If there are delays or problems, we’ll let you know as soon as possible. Our team is committed to clear, friendly communication so you always know what’s going on with your prescription.

Common reasons for delays or issues include:

  • Missing or incorrect details on the prescription
  • Medication being out of stock
  • NHS exemption or payment status not confirmed

Keeping You Updated

If there’s a delay in processing your prescription, we’ll let you know as soon as possible. Our priority is to resolve any issues promptly so that your medication can be dispensed and delivered without unnecessary disruption.

If a medication isn’t available or needs to be changed, we’ll let you know right away. You’ll then have the option to speak to your GP about an alternative or consider using another pharmacy if needed.

At The Family Chemist, we’re committed to making your NHS prescription experience safe, reliable, and stress-free—even when something doesn’t go quite to plan.
