The September 2025 increase has already taken effect. Here is what changed, what private patients pay now and whether prices have subsequently fallen.

Why did the price Increase?

When Eli Lilly first launched Mounjaro, the goal was to create an effective treatment for both type 2 diabetes and obesity.

To support early NHS access in the UK, the medication was initially priced significantly lower than in other countries. However, due to international pricing pressure (particularly from the United States), Eli Lilly is now adjusting prices to better align with global markets. This increase is intended to balance international and domestic cost.

How much did the price increase?

Eli Lilly increased the price by up to 170% to buy Mounjaro While the rise was slightly less steep for the lower doses, such as 2.5mg and 5mg, all strengths were affected by the new pricing.

At The Family Chemist we work hard to remain competitive and are direct discussions with manufacturers to secure the best possible pricing.

DosePrice
2.5mg Starter Pack: Needles,
Swabs & Sharpsbin
£174.99
2.5 mg£164.99
5 mg£178.99
7.5 mg£234.99
10 mg£258.99
12.5 mg£278.99
15 mg£293.99
2.5mg & 5mg Starter Pack£344.99
2.5mg & 5mg & 7.5mg Starter Pack£579.99

What did this mean for patients?

The price increase was unavoidable, and it meant higher monthly costs for patients.

This sudden rise understandably caused concern among long-term users who experienced positive results with the medication. Some reported feelings of frustration and anxiety, with many expressing concerns about being able to afford treatment in future.
