Liraglutide: A Convenient Daily Injection for Weight Loss

Liraglutide is the latest weight loss injection to hit the market. Working similarly to other weight loss injections, the Liraglutide pen mimics the naturally occurring GLP-1 hormone in your body, which is released after eating. This hormone plays a crucial role in regulating appetite, making you feel fuller and reducing hunger. Paired with healthy eating and lifestyle changes, Liraglutide can help you lose up to 11% of starting weight after just 1 year of treatment.
How often do I inject the Liraglutide pen?
Unlike other weight loss injections, Liraglutide injections are a once-daily injection. Starting from the lowest strength of 0.6mg daily and gradually increasing by 0.6mg each week until reaching a daily dose of 3mg. This ensures your body adjusts to the medication gradually, under guidance of a healthcare professional, until you reach your target weight.
Injected subcutaneously (under the skin), Liraglutide is self-administered, making it easy to fit into your lifestyle. You should inject at the same time each day, with or without food and drink. This pen should not get in the way of your schedule but fit around it.
With box of Liraglutide you receive should contain a patient information leaflet with a step-to-step guide on how to use your Liraglutide pen. It is important to read through this information carefully before you use your pen.
What if I forget a dose?
If you remember within 12 hours of your scheduled injection time, inject as soon as you remember. However, if more than 12 hours have passed, simply resume the following day at your scheduled time. Try to avoid missing doses of Liraglutide; if you miss repeated doses we may advise you to lower your dose or start from the lowest dose, patient and situation depending.
Storage
- Kept out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiration date. The expiration date refers to the last day of the month given on the box.
- Keep refrigerated between 2o and 8o and do not freeze.
- After first use, Liraglutide can be stored at room temperature (up to 30o) for up to 30 days.
- Use a fresh needle each injection.
Liraglutide Compared to Other Treatments
You should only use one weight loss treatment at a time, and different treatments may work better for different people. It’s important to find the treatment that works best for you. Many weight loss injections work in a similar way by imitating the GLP-1 hormone, however they contain different active ingredients and you should find the one that works for you.

Switching to Liraglutide
If you’re considering switching to Liraglutide from another weight loss treatment, it’s important to consult a healthcare professional. They can guide you through the process, as different medications can take varying amounts of time to leave your system before starting a new treatment. While daily injections can take up to 48 hours to leave the system, weekly injection may take up to 2 months.
When switching, always start at the lowest dose (0.6mg) and gradually increase, regardless of what dose you may have been previously using on another medication.
