Xenical (Orlistat)

Orlistat, marketed under the brand name Xenical, attaches itself to certain enzymes in the body that break down fat. This prevents the fat from being digested and absorbed, meaning that it stops any excess calories from being stored and contributing to weight gain.

Take one 120 mg capsule of Xenical with water immediately before, during, or up to one hour after each main meal. If you miss a meal or if the meal you eat contains no fat, omit the dose of orlistat. Do not exceed the maximum daily dose of 120mg three times daily.

While taking this medication, you may experience side effects such as abdominal pain, diarrhoea, and gastrointestinal disorders. To minimize the risk of abdominal pain, reduce your fat intake.

Xenical aids in weight loss by blocking the absorption of a portion of the dietary fat that you consume. This process gradually leads to a sustainable reduction in weight over time.

Xenical is generally recommended for adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or for those with a BMI of 28 or higher if they have other risk factors like diabetes or high blood pressure.
