Nurofen for children is a branded form of ibuprofen oral solution. Used for the fast and effective relief of fever, including post immunisation fever, the relief of cold and flu symptoms, and treatment of pain such as sore throat, teething pain, toothache, and minor injuries. Nurofen products fall into the category of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and should therefore not be taken with any other NSAIDs.
Active Ingredient
Ibuprofen 100mg/5ml
Other Ingredients
Maltitol liquid (E965), xanthan gum (E415), sodium methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E219), sodium propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E217), citric acid (E330), sucralose (E955), strawberry flavour, purified water.
Fever Post Immunisation
Babies and children 3 months and over weighing more than 5kg:
- Give one 2.5ml (50mg) dose if necessary.
- Give a second 2.5ml (50mg) dose 6hrs later if needed.
Do not give more than two doses in a 24hr period.
Fever, Pain, and Symptoms of Cold and Flu
Babies and children 3 months and over weighing more that 5kg:
- Give one 2.5ml (50mg) dose three times a day.
Do not give more than three doses in a 24hr period.
6 – 12 months:
- Give one 2.5ml (50mg) dose three or four times a day.
1 – 3 years:
- Give one 5ml (100mg) dose three times a day.
4 – 6 years:
- Give one 7.5ml (150mg) dose three time a day.
7 – 9 years:
- Give one 10ml (200mg) dose three times a day.
Doses should be given once every 6-8hrs. Do not take more than the recommended dose in 24hrs.
Precautions
- Not suitable for children under 3 months old, or children weighing less than 5kg.
- Treatment should not be given to anyone with an allergy to ibuprofen or any other ingredients.
- Treatment is fructose containing.
- Do not give treatment to anyone who has had a stomach ulcer, perforation or bleeding of the stomach.
- Should not be taken with any other NSAID painkillers.
- Speak to a doctor or pharmacist if patient has asthma, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, history of stroke, heart, liver, kidney, or bowel problems.
- This treatment is not suitable for relief of chicken pox.
- For short-term use only.
Storage
Store below 25°C.
Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
Keep the bottle closed when not in use.
Store out of sight and reach of children.
Common side effects can include:
- Stomach pain or discomfort
- Nausea or vomiting
- Indigestion or heartburn
- Diarrhoea
Uncommon side effects can include:
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Skin rash or itching
