How NHS Prescription Dispensing Works with Our Online Pharmacy

We’re proud to launch our new NHS prescription dispensing service at The Family Chemist.  This service offers a convenient, simple, and secure way for you to receive your medication. You don’t have to leave the comfort of your home. Whether you’re managing a long-term condition, or recovering from an illness, this service helps you get your medication easily. If you prefer the ease of home delivery, we put your convenience first. Here’s a quick guide to how our NHS prescription dispensing service works.

How NHS Prescription Dispensing Works

  1. Nominate Us as Your Pharmacy

Get started easily. Just nominate The Family Chemist as your preferred pharmacy. You can do this directly from your GP or by filling out our online Sign-Up form. When you nominate us as your pharmacy, you notify your GP to send your NHS Electronic Prescriptions directly to us. This electronic nomination ensures a seamless and secure transfer of your prescription information.

  2. Receiving Your Prescription
    1. Your GP Sends us a Prescription
Your GP will issue a prescription, which is then securely sent to us through the NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS). There’s no need for paper; everything happens online for your convenience.
    2. You Send Us Your Prescription
Occasionally, your GP may prefer to issue a paper prescription instead of sending it electronically. At The Family Chemist, we are an online-only pharmacy, which means we cannot accept walk-ins or in-person drop offs of prescriptions. However, if your GP has issued a paper prescription you would like us to dispense, we have a system in place. Simply send your prescription form (FP10) to us via a mail courier of your choosing and we’ll take care of the rest. We’ll always let you know once we receive your prescription if it is mailed in. However, please notify us in advance if you plan to send your prescription this way. This allows us to check stock availability and help avoid delays. Always ensure you have completed the back of your prescriptions before sending it to us, including any exemption information, to prevent delays in processing.
    3. Your Private Prescription
At The Family Chemist, we are an online-only pharmacy, which means we cannot accept walk-ins or in-person drop offs of prescriptions. However, if you would like us to dispense a private prescription for you, we have a system in place. Simply mail your private prescription to us via a mail courier of your choice, and we’ll handle the rest. Please note that private prescriptions are not NHS-issued, and the cost is calculated differently. The cost of a private prescription is determined by the pharmacy based on the price and quantity of the item(s). This means the cost may vary between prescriptions. Once we have calculated the cost, we’ll send a unique payment link to your email for easy and secure payment.
  3. We Dispense and Deliver Your Medication

Our expert pharmacy team carefully reviews you prescription in order to ensure everything is accurate and appropriate. We then dispense your medication with the highest standard of care. To make things even easier, we then securely package your medication and deliver them straight to your door via Royal Mail. The best part? It’s completely free of charge and you’ll receive regular updates, so you always know when your medicine is on its way.

We designed our NHS prescription service to help you manage your health more easily, conveniently, and safely. We’re proud to support you every step of the way.
