Many people living in the UK may have high cholesterol without even knowing, overtime leading to build-up in your arteries leading to reduced blood flow, blockages, and damage to your cardiovascular system. There are often no symptoms to warn of high cholesterol, however there are risk factors which can increase the likeliness of developing high cholesterol. Factors such as being a smoker, having an inactive lifestyle, eating a poor diet, and being overweight can all increase the risk of high cholesterol. Our testing kits help you get clear insights into your heart health by testing your total cholesterol levels, helping you take control of your health.
Follow this step-by-step guide on how to use our cholesterol self-testing kits:
- Wash and dry your hands, holding the finger for the sample downwards.
- Prick the side of your fingertip with the lancet provided.
- Collect the blood sample and drop into the test hole.
- Wait two minutes.
- Turn the kit over to read results.
- Use the colour chart provided to match your results.
- Do not interpret results after two and a half minutes.
- Take a photo of your test results to share with a healthcare professional.
Precautions
- Cholesterol self-testing kits are suitable for anyone wishing to check their levels in order to manage and reduce the risks that come with high cholesterol such as heart attack and stroke.
- Those especially at risk for high cholesterol levels include those who have a family history, are overweight, have a poor diet, are physically unactive, smoke, have diabetes, or are older.
- Results are shown within 2 minutes.
- This test uses a blood sample. The box includes lancets for safe sample gathering.
- While all of our tests are accurate, no test is 100%. They are designed to help you begin your health journey. They should be considered alongside clinical information and discussed with a clinician.
- If your test gives unclear or invalid results, it is usually due to an insufficient sample volume or an incorrect procedure. If this happens, review the directions and repeat the process using a new test. Do not retry using the initial test.
