Nevolat FAQs
What is Nevolat?
Nevolat is a daily injectable pen containing the active ingredient liraglutide and used as an aid for weight loss and management. Self-administered, Nevolat is designed to be used in the comfort of your own home, fitting around you own schedule.
Nevolat is used for weight loss in addition to diet and exercise in adults aged 18 and above who have
- a BMI of 30 kg/m² or greater (obesity) or
- a BMI of 27 kg/m² and less than 30 kg/m² (overweight) and weight-related health problems (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, abnormal levels of fats in the blood or breathing problems during sleep called ‘obstructive sleep apnoea’).
You can work out your BMI using the following website: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-weight/bmi-calculator/
How does Nevolat work?
Containing Liraglutide, Nevolat works by mimicking the naturally produced GLP-1 hormone which is released when the body has finished eating. Developed for patients suffering from diabetes and obesity, this pen helps patients feel fuller consuming less food. Paired with healthy eating and lifestyle changes, Nevolat can be an effective tool for weight loss. GLP-1s have many other benefits including but not limited to decrease in blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol. Â
How do I use Nevolat?
Nevolat is injected subcutaneously (under the skin) once a day. The best places for injection are stomach (abdomen), the upper leg, or upper arm. Do not inject into a vein or muscle. Each pen contains 3ml of solution, and can administer doses of 0.6mg, 1.2mg, 1.8mg, 2.4mg, and 3mg.
Beginning on the lowest dose of 0.6mg, patients should inject at the same time each day (with or without food and drink) as a time that works best for them.
Designed for gradual titration, patients will escalate strengths over a 4 week period to reach the 3mg dose. This is to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea. The starting dose is 0.6mg per day for 1 week before increasing dose by 0.6mg each week until the full maintenance dose of 3mg is reached. Once you reach the full maintenance dose keep using the dose until you achieve your desired weight loss targets.
| Week | Dosage injected |
| Week 1 | 0.6mg once a day |
| Week 2 | 1.2mg once a day |
| Week 3 | 1.8mg once a day |
| Week 4 | 2.4mg once a day |
| Week 5 onwards | 3.0mg once a day |
The highest strength available for administration is 3mg daily and cannot be exceeded. If you have intolerable side effects you should stay on the previous dose for a further 2 weeks. If the side effects do not improve then contact a The Family Chemist clinician or your doctor.
What if I forget a dose?
If you miss a dose of Nevolat, follow these guidelines:
If you remember within 12 hours of your scheduled dose, inject as soon as you remember and continue with your usual schedule the next day.
If you remember after 12 hours, resume the following day at your scheduled time.
Never double-dose.
