Hair Loss FAQs
What treatments are available?
We offer both topical and oral treatment. Finasteride is an oral tablet that is the only clinically proven medicine that can slow hair loss and encourage new scalp growth. Treatments work better if used early.
Tablet form: Dutasteride
Solution form: Regaine
How does the treatment work?
Propecia/Finasteride blocks the action of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. Finasteride blocks the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the androgen responsible for male pattern hair loss. The effect of finasteride scalp will only last as long as the medicine is taken. When it is stopped, the hair will be lost.
Regaine/Minoxidil dilates the blood vessels in the scalp allowing for more blood flow to the hair follicles and encouraging hair growth.
What if the treatment doesn’t work?
You will notice peak hair growth after 4 months to 2 years, and treatment will need to be continued indefinitely. If there is no response after 1 year, we recommend you see a dermatologist for further advice.

What are the main causes of hair loss
Hair loss is not usually a cause for concern, but occasionally it can be a sign of a medical condition.
Some types of hair loss are permanent, like male and female pattern baldness, which usually runs in the family.
Can hair grow back after thinning?
Although hair regrowth may be possible, you need to speak to our pharmacist. This is so they can analyse the cause of the hair thinning and rule out any abnormalities.
