Soolantra Cream

Soolantra is indicated for the tropical treatment of inflammatory lesions of rosacea in adult patients. Soolantra is a prescription only medicines which comes in a cream form and its active ingredient is Ivermectin 10mg/1g. Ivermectin carries anti-inflammatory and anti-parasitic properties and therefore helps kill parasites including demodex mites which cause skin inflammation. In clinical trials Soolantra saw a significant reduction of symptoms in just two weeks. Soolantra works best on patients with Tender, inflamed, sore red bumps or pus filled spots. If there is little or no improvement a trial of topical cream and Efracea (doxycycline modified release) 40mg once daily capsules for 8-12 weeks may be used.

A European study found that 85% of patients reported symptoms were either “clear” or “almost clear” by week 16. Soolantra is effective at reducing pus filled spots and can be used alongside Mirvaso to reduce redness.

It is recommended to use Soolantra once a day for up to 4 months. Soolantra can be applied alone or with other treatments such as Mirvaso. In cases of no improvement after 3 months the treatment should be discontinued. A pea size amount of cream should be used on each of the five areas of the face: forehead, chin, nose and each cheek. The cream should be spread as a thin layer across the entire face, avoiding the eyes, lips and mouth. Soolantra should only be applied on the face. Hands should be washed after use. Cosmetic products may be applied after the cream has dried.

Soolantra can be used in the morning or at night. You may find it most beneficial when the symptoms are worst. Try making it part of your daily skin routine to help you remember to apply every day. It is important to note that if you miss a day do not double up the dose the following day.

If you are using a combination treatment like Mirvaso and Soolantra. It may be best to apply Mirvaso in the morning and Soolantra at night. Or you can wait for Mirvaso to dry and then apply Soolantra.

Wash your skin gently with a non-soap cleanser every day. Use your fingers, not a sponge or washcloth. And blot, don’t rub your skin dry with a soft towel. Apply moisturizer once daily to as many times as desired per day. Avoid using products with alcohol, witch hazel, menthol or peppermint on the face. Try using only mineral-based makeup and oil free foundation or concealers.

You may experience initial worsening of symptoms due to dying demodex mites but these tend to resolve within 1 week after continually using the Soolantra. In cases of severe reaction the treatment should be discontinued. The most common side effects include burning. The uncommon side effects include itching, irritation, dry skin or rosacea aggravation. It is important to report suspected adverse reactions to our clinician.

Patients who are allergic to Ivermectin or its excipients, pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18 or have liver problems should not use Soolantra.
