Piriton Syrup is a liquid antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergies and hay fever. It helps with allergic reactions such as itching, sneezing, runny nose, skin irritation, hives and itch associated with chickenpox.
The syrup contains the active ingredient chlorphenamine maleate, an antihistamine that blocks histamine, a chemical released by your body during allergic reactions. This helps reduce typical symptoms like itching, sneezing and watery eyes or skin irritation.
Active Ingredient
Chlorphenamine Maleate 2mg/5ml
Other Ingredients
Liquid sucrose, glycerol, ethanol, tingle flavour, peppermint oil, water, methyl, ethyl, propyl Hydroxybenzoates (E218, E214 and E216).
Babies and children ages 1 – 2 years old:
- Give one 2.5ml spoonful twice daily.
Do not give more than two 2.5ml doses in a 24hr period.
2 – 6 years old:
- Give one 2.5ml spoonful every 4 – 6 hours.
Do not give more than six 2.5ml doses in a 24hr period.
6 – 12 years old:
- Give one 5ml spoonful every 4 – 6 hours.
Do not give more than six 5ml doses in a 24hr period.
Adults and children over 12 years old:
- Take two 5ml spoonfuls every 4 – 6 hours.
Do not take more than twelve 5ml doses in a 24hr period.
For oral use only.
Precautions
- Not suitable for children under 1 year old.
- Not suitable if you are allergic to antihistamines or any ingredient in the syrup.
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have glaucoma, prostate enlargement, heart or liver issues.
- Do not take with any other antihistamine products, including products for relief of coughs and colds.
- Avoid alcohol with this medicine.
- This medication contains sucrose which should be taken into account for patients with diabetes or other sugar intolerances.
Storage
Store below 25ºC.
Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
Store with the cap securely fixed.
Keep out of sight and reach of children.
Common side effects may include
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
Uncommon side effects may include
- Excitability, restlessness, or irritability, particularly in children
- Headache
- Blurred vision or impaired coordination; avoid driving or operating tools if affected.
- Difficulty passing urine
- Skin reactions such as rash or itching
