Imodium Original Capsules are an anti-diarrhoeal medicine used to treat sudden (acute) diarrhoea and help restore normal bowel function. It contains loperamide, which slows bowel movements, allowing more water to be absorbed from the stool and reducing the frequency of diarrhoea.

Active Ingredients

Loperamide hydrochloride 2mg

Other Ingredients

Lactose, maize starch, talc and magnesium stearate (E572), titanium dioxide (E171), black ferrous oxide (E172), yellow ferric oxide (E172), indigo carmine (E132), erythrosine (E127), gelatine.

 

Adults and children over 12 years old:

  • Take two capsules initially.
  • Then take one capsule after each further loose bowel motion as required.

Do not take more than six capsules in a 24hr period. Do not take for longer than 48hrs. For oral use only.

Precautions
  • Not suitable for children under 12 years old. 
  • Do not use if you have severe abdominal pain, constipation, or blood in the stool.
  • Stop use and seek medical advice if symptoms last more than 48 hours.
  • For short-term use only.
  • Consult a healthcare professional before use if pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Not suitable for treatment of flare-up of an inflammatory bowel condition such as ulcerative colitis.
  • Not suitable if constipated.
Storage

Store below 25°C.

Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight and away from moisture.

Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Common side effects can include:
  • Constipation
  • Mild abdominal discomfort
  • Nausea
Uncommon or rare side effects can include:
  • Allergic reactions
  • Dizziness or drowsiness
