Hydrocortisone steroid cream is a mild topical corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation, itching, and swelling from skin conditions like eczema, dermatitis, insect bites, and allergic reactions. 

 

It works by calming the body’s response to irritation, but shouldn’t be used on the face, broken skin, or for prolonged periods without a doctor’s advice, due to potential side effects like skin thinning or infection risk. 

Active Ingredients

Hydrocortisone 1% 

Other Ingredients

Cetomacrogol emulsifying wax, liquid paraffin, macrogol 300, soft white paraffin, purified water, preservative chlorocresol. 

 

Adults and children over 10 years old:  

  • Apply a small amount once or twice a day for a maximum period of 2-3 days. 
Precautions 
  • Not suitable for children under the age of 10 years old.  
  • Not to be used on the eyes or face, anal or genital areas. 
  • Do not use on broken or infected skin. 
  • Do not use if you are allergic to hydrocortisone or any of the other ingredients. 
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.  
Storage 

Do not store above 25°C. 

Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. 

Keep out of sight and reach of children.  

Common side effects can include:
  • Skin thinning with prolonged or excessive use 
  • Burning, stinging, or itching at the application site 
  • Redness or irritation 
  • Dryness or peeling 

 

Uncommon side effects can include: 
  • Acne or pimples 
  • Changes in skin colour (lightening or darkening) 
  • Increased hair growth at the application site 
  • Delayed wound healing
