Evana is a branded form of tranexamic acid, which reduces heavy menstrual bleeding. It works by helping blood clots in the uterus to stay in place, slowing down bleeding.

Evana should be taken only on the days when bleeding it heavy. You should not take Evana before your period starts, as it will be ineffective if taken too early.

Take two tablets three times a day (morning, afternoon, and evening) for up to four days. If your bleeding has not reduced or slowed, then an extra two tablets can be taken at night. You should not take more than eight tablets in a 24hr period.

You may not experience any side effect at all however the most common side effects reported include feeling sick, vomiting, or diarrhoea.

If you experience symptoms such as an allergic reaction, changes in eyesight, pain or heaviness in your chest, unusual pain or swelling in arms or legs, fainting, shortness of breath, or coughing up blood; you should stop taking this medication and seek urgent medical treatment.

Evana is suitable for adults over the age of 18 who suffer from heavy menstrual bleeding.

This medication is not suitable for those who:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a history of blood clots (including DVT, pulmonary embolism, or stroke)
  • Have an inherited clotting disorder
  • Have kidney disease
  • Are allergic to tranexamic acid.
