Chloramphenicol 1% Eye Ointment is a topical antibiotic treatment for acute bacterial conjunctivitis It is suitable for use when the eyes are red, gritty, uncomfortable, or producing sticky discharge due to a bacterial infection. The ointment works directly in the eye to eliminate bacteria and support recovery.

Active Ingredients

Chloramphenicol 1%

Other Ingredients

Liquid paraffin, white petroleum.

Adults and children aged 2 years and over:

  • Wash and dry hands thoroughly before application.
  • Gently pull down the lower eyelid.
  • Apply a small amount of ointment (approximately 1cm) into the space between the eyelid and the eye.
  • Use three or four times daily.
  • Continue treatment for up to 5 days.

For ocular use only.

Precautions
  • Not suitable for children under 2 years.
  • The ointment may cause temporary blurred vision immediately after application.
  • Do not use if allergic to chloramphenicol or any other ingredients.
  • Avoid wearing contact lenses during treatment and for 24 hours after completing the course.
  • Seek medical advice if symptoms worsen or do not improve within 48 hours.  
  • Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery until vision clears after application.

 

Storage

Store below 25°C.

Replace the cap securely after use.

Discard any unused ointment after completing the 5-day course of treatment.

Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Common side effects may include:
  • Temporary blurred vision after application or mild eye irritation or stinging 

 

Uncommon or rare side effects may include:
  • Severe irritation or swelling, allergic reactions. Stop using the product and seek medical advice immediately if signs of an allergic reaction occur.
