Chloramphenicol 1% Eye Ointment is a topical antibiotic treatment for acute bacterial conjunctivitis. It is suitable for use when the eyes are red, gritty, uncomfortable, or producing sticky discharge due to a bacterial infection. The ointment works directly in the eye to eliminate bacteria and support recovery.
Active Ingredients
Chloramphenicol 1%
Other Ingredients
Liquid paraffin, white petroleum.
Adults and children aged 2 years and over:
- Wash and dry hands thoroughly before application.
- Gently pull down the lower eyelid.
- Apply a small amount of ointment (approximately 1cm) into the space between the eyelid and the eye.
- Use three or four times daily.
- Continue treatment for up to 5 days.
For ocular use only.
Precautions
- Not suitable for children under 2 years.
- The ointment may cause temporary blurred vision immediately after application.
- Do not use if allergic to chloramphenicol or any other ingredients.
- Avoid wearing contact lenses during treatment and for 24 hours after completing the course.
- Seek medical advice if symptoms worsen or do not improve within 48 hours.
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Do not drive or operate machinery until vision clears after application.
Storage
Store below 25°C.
Replace the cap securely after use.
Discard any unused ointment after completing the 5-day course of treatment.
Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
Common side effects may include:
- Temporary blurred vision after application or mild eye irritation or stinging
Uncommon or rare side effects may include:
- Severe irritation or swelling, allergic reactions. Stop using the product and seek medical advice immediately if signs of an allergic reaction occur.
