Buttercup Syrup is a traditional cough medicine used to help relieve coughs, colds, sore throat and mucus build-up. It works by loosening phlegm so it is easier to cough up, helping you breathe more comfortably and feel less congested.
Buttercup Syrup contains herbal ingredients traditionally used for cough and throat relief.
- Squill extract helps loosen mucus so it is easier to cough up.
- Capsicum tincture creates a gentle warming effect that helps soothe throat irritation.
- The syrup texture coats the throat to reduce tickly feelings that trigger coughing.
Active ingredients
Each 5 ml dose contains squill liquid extract (0.062% v/v) and capsicum tincture (0.05% v/v)
Other ingredients
Acacia powder, caramel colour (E150), ethanol, levomenthol, clove oil, peppermint oil, sodium methyl hydroxybenzoate (E219), sodium propyl hydroxybenzoate (E217), aniseed flavour, water, carmoisine (E122), Sunset Yellow (E110), strong ginger tincture, acetic acid, saccharin sodium, syrup (fructose, glucose and sucrose).
This product contains 2.3% ethanol (alcohol), 91 mg per 5 ml dose. At the child dose, this is a small amount of alcohol. The adult dose of 10 ml contains up to 182 mg ethanol (alcohol), equivalent to 6.2 ml beer, and 1.8 ml wine per dose. Harmful for those suffering from alcoholism. To be taken into account in pregnant or breast-feeding women, and high risk groups such as patients with liver disease or epilepsy.
Adults:
- Two 5 ml spoonfuls three times a day. However, if the cough is troublesome, two spoonfuls may also be taken before going to bed.
Children over 2 years old:
- One 5 ml spoonful three times a day. However, if the cough is troublesome, one spoonful may also be taken before going to bed.
- This medication is not recommended for children under 2 years.
Precautions
- Not suitable for children under the age of 2 years
- Do not use if the seal as been broken or damaged before first use.
- Do not use if allergic to any ingredients.
- If you or your child have diabetes, consult your doctor before taking Buttercup Original Cough Syrup as it contains 4.41 g sugar in 5 ml.
- Seek medical advice if the cough persists, worsens, or is accompanied by high fever, rash, or breathing difficulties.
Storage
- Keep out of sight and reach of children.
- Store below 25°C.
- Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
- Once the bottle has been opened, use within 28 days.
- At present there is no known side affects.
