Benylin Chesty Cough for Children is a cough syrup designed to help relieve chesty coughs that produce mucus.
It contains the active ingredient guaifenesin, an expectorant that works by loosening and thinning mucus in the lungs. This makes it easier for children to cough up phlegm and clear their chest.
By helping to remove built-up mucus, it can reduce chest congestion and make breathing more comfortable.
Active ingredients
- 50 mg Guaifenesin.
Other ingredients
- Glycerol, sorbitol liquid (E420), carmellose sodium, sodium citrate, sodium saccharin, sodium benzoate (E211), citric acid monohydrate, strawberry flavour (containing benzyl alcohol) and water.
For children 6-12 years:
- Children 6 – 12 years can take Two 5 ml spoonfuls four times a day.
- Use the supplied measuring spoon or cup to ensure the correct dose for the child’s age.
- The syrup can be given every 4 hours, if needed.
- Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Precautions
- Not suitable for children under the age of 6 years.
- Do not use if your child is allergic to any of the ingredients listed in the PIL.
- Consult a pharmacist or doctor before use if your child has asthma, a long-lasting cough, or other medical conditions.
- Seek medical advice if symptoms persist or worsen.
Storage
- Discard the bottle 4 months after opening, even if there is syrup remaining.
- Keep out of sight and reach of children.
- Do not store above 25ºC.
- Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
Common side effects can include:
- Stomach pain or discomfort
- Diarrhoea
- Vomiting
- Nausea
