Rizatriptan

Rizatriptan, an effective 5-HT1 agonist, actively contracts the blood vessels around the brain. This action directly reverses the widening of blood vessels that are commonly associated with migraines. Moreover, this medication is known to be a reliable and efficient treatment for migraine symptoms.

Take Rizatriptan as early as possible after the onset of migraine attack for effective treatment. You can administer it at any stage of the attack with equal effectiveness, but never take it before a headache occurs. The recommended dose for Rizatriptan is 5-10mg. If symptoms recur after the first dose, you may give a second dose, but ensure a minimum interval of two hours between the two doses. Remember not to exceed two doses within any 24-hour period.

You may not experience any side effect at all however the most common side effects reported include a warm-hot sensation, tightness, tingling, flushing, drowsiness, and feelings of heaviness or pressure in areas such as the face, arms, legs and occasionally the chest. The way side-effects affect different people can vary between the different triptans.

So, if one causes unpleasant side-effects, a switch to a different one may be fine.
