FAQs
Rhinolast is a prescription-only antihistamine nasal spray used to treat allergic rhinitis. Rhinolast contains an active ingredient called Azelastine Hydrochloride. Allergic rhinitis varies from seasonal allergies like hayfever or all year round allergies such as house dust mites or dog and cat hairs. Rhinolast can be used to control symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, itching or blocked nose. Rhinolast works by blocking the effects of a natural hormone called histamine. Histamine is part of your immune response when an allergen comes in contact with your body. Rhinolast can take effect within an hour and lasts for approximately 12 hours. However if you suffer from severe allergic rhinitis with inflammation it can take a few days to control the symptoms.
Rhinolast Nasal Spray has 0.1% w/v Azelastine Hydrocholoride. Although rhinolast can be taken in children aged 6 years and over we only offer this treatment to adults over 18 years old. The recommended dose is one application (0.14ml) in each nostril in the morning and in the evening.
How to use the spray
- Blow your nose first.
- Remove the protective cap
- Before the first use, press the pump several times until an even spray emerges. Spray once into each nostril keeping head upright. Do not tilt head backwards.
- Wipe the pump nozzle and replace the protective cap.
Dispose of the bottle by returning it to the pharmacy after 6 months of opening. This is to ensure the solution remains sterile.
Do not used Rhinolast and Dymista at the same time as you will exceed the recommended antihistamine dose.
Like all medicines, Rhinolast can cause side effects although not everyone gets them. The most common side effects are  a substance-specific bitter taste may be experienced after administration (often due to incorrect method of application, namely tilting the head too far backwards during administration) which, in rare cases, may lead to nausea. You may experience a small irritation in the nose but this is uncommon.
