Nevolat

Nevolat is a daily injectable pen containing the active ingredient liraglutide and is used alongside healthy eating and lifestyle changes to help you with your weight loss journey. Self-administered, this pen is designed to be used in the comfort of your own home, fitting around your own schedule.

The active ingredient in Nevolat is liraglutide, which is similar to a natural hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) that’s released by your gut after eating. Nevolat works by targeting areas in the brain that control appetite, helping you feel fuller for longer and reducing hunger. This can support weight loss.

Nevolat is to be injected subcutaneously (under the skin), in areas such as stomach (more than 5cm from your belly button), upper leg, or upper arm. It’s important to rotate the injection site.

Doses should be injected daily and we recommend injecting around the same time each day.

Beginning on the lowest dose of 0.6mg and  gradually increasing dosage after 7 days, if required and side effects are manageable.

The highest strength available for administration is 3mg daily and cannot be exceeded. Once the 3mg dose has been reached, you can remain on this dose until desired weight loss is achieved.

If you miss a dose of Nevolat, follow these guidelines:

• If you remember within 12 hours of your scheduled dose; inject as soon as you remember. Continue with your schedule as usual the following day.
• If you remember after 12 hours of your scheduled dose; resume the following day at your scheduled time.
• Avoid missing doses; if you miss repeated doses you will be at increased risk of developing serious side effects. Our Clinicians will assess the safety of your dose and may advise you to lower your dose, or start from the lowest dose if you have repeatedly missed your dose or had a break from your treatment.
• Never double dose.

You should not use Nevolat if you:

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Are allergic to liraglutide or any other ingredients in this medicine
• Have severe heart failure
• Are 75 years old or older
• Are under 18 years old
• Have kidney disease or are on dialysis
• Have liver disease
• Have severe stomach or gut problems
• Are already taking a weight loss treatment

Like all medications, Nevolat can cause some side effects. Though not everyone will experience them.

Very Common – May affect more than 1 in 10 people.

These usually go away after a few days or weeks. If they persist, please reach out to our Clinicians for advice and support.

• Feeling sick (nausea)
• Being sick (vomiting)
• Diarrhoea
• Constipation
• Headache

To help side effects such as nausea, constipation or heartburn and help your body adjust to the treatment, we recommend that you try the following:

• Drink plenty of clear fluids such as water (we recommend 2-3L each day)
• Eat small amounts regularly
• Reduce high fat, citrusy or spicy foods
• Increase your fibre and protein intake
• Ensure regular gentle exercise (regular walks or cycling)

If you experience headaches whilst on treatment, you can take paracetamol to manage the pain.

If you experience severe, persistent abdominal pain, diarrhoea, vomiting or fever, stop using the treatment and seek urgent medical attention.

Though the list above does not include all possible side effects, it is vital that if you experience any serious side effects whilst using this medication to consult a healthcare professional.

Be sure to read through the patient information leaflet before taking any new medication to familiarise yourself with the possible side effects.

• Keep this medication out of sight and reach of children
• Do not use this medication after the expiry date, which is stakes on the pen label and the outside box. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month
• Before using, store in the fridge between 2oc and 8oc. Do not freeze.
• After first use, you can keep the pen for 30 days at room temperature (below 30oc) or in the fridge between 2oc and 8oc.
• When not in use, store with the pen cap on and detach all needles once used.
• Do not throw away any medication in your general waste bin. Ask you local pharmacy or local council for safe disposal of medication.

All weight loss injections available on the market currently (Nevolat, Mounjaro, and Wegovy), work in a similar way by imitating those GLP hormones. Though each differ in their active ingredient, how effective the injection can be, and how it is administered.

Nevolat does not come with needles, a sharps bin or alcohol swabs through these will be needed when administering each dose of the Nevolat pen. These can be purchased separately from ourselves or any community pharmacy, although we do offer a bundle to purchase everything you will need for your injection if you required.
