Utovlan FAQs

Norethisterone is the active ingredient in Utovlan. It is a synthetic progestogen that can safely delay your period for up to 17 days. When you are on your period, your body experiences a natural decrease in its norethisterone levels, which causes your womb lining to shed. By taking Norethisterone, your progesterone levels remain stable, resulting in a delay of your menstrual period.

Take Norethisterone one tablet three times a day, beginning three days before your expected period. Do not take Norethisterone for more than 20 days. Once you stop taking Norethisterone, your period should start within 2 to 3 days, and your menstrual cycles should return to normal thereafter.

You might not experience any side effects, but nausea (feeling sick) and breast tenderness are the most commonly reported side effects.

Doctors commonly prescribe it to regulate irregular menstrual cycles, manage heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia), and provide relief for menopausal symptoms as part of hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

Discuss your plans with our pharmacist, who will guide you through the process of using Utovlan to temporarily postpone your period.

It is generally suitable for many individuals, but our pharmacist should determine its use based on your specific needs and medical history.

The time it takes for it to regulate your menstrual cycle can vary. Our pharmacist will provide guidance on when to expect changes.
